37,000 fans filled the national stadium to share a moment with the “Sol de Mexico”

QCOSTARICA — Traffic in and around La Sabana, as roads leading to and from National Stadium, especially the Ruta 27, was a nightmare on Thursday. It seems that most of Costa Rica wanted to have their moment with the Mexico Sun.

More than 37,000 people filled the stadium Thursday night with “Sol de Mexico”, Luis Miguel.

Since the night in which he sang La Malagueña live, on channel 44 in Ciudad Juárez (Mexico) – accompanied by his father Luisito Rey on guitar and sponsored by actor Andrés García–, 43 years have passed, more than 20 albums, 100 million copies sold in the world, six Grammy Awards, six Latin Grammys, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a duet with Frank Sinatra and US$280 million raised in tours and concerts.

Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri was 11 years old. Today he is one of the greatest performers not only in Mexico but in all of Latin America and also worldwide.

The concert was memorable, and described as “a true inspiration”.

And not only for the fans inside the stadium, as we can see from the photo below of the ‘unconditional’ fans of the Sol de Mexico.

The lines outside the stadium began Thursday morning. By 4:00 pm when the gates opened, the line was more than two blocks (200 meters) long and growing.

For some 100 fans, the concert was bittersweet, for the San Jose municipal police were busy pulling license plates from badly parked cars.

“On sidewalks, in flower beds, on corners, in double lanes, and in front of garages… 100 drivers return home without license plates,” explained Marcelo Solano, head of the municipal police, on his  X (Twitter) account.
